Pet Friendly Cottage Holidays Proving Popular

England 16/1/2013

Demand for pet friendly cottage holidays is rising as more UK pet owners opt to take their pets with them

Years ago, pet friendly cottage holidays, were very much a niche market. People accepted that if they wanted to take their pets on holiday that meant camping, so those who wanted to stay in bricks and mortars had to leave their pets at home.

It did not stop them from taking holidays because all they needed to do was to put their dog in the kennels or their cat in a cattery. Smaller pets like birds, hamsters and gerbils could be taken to a neighbour to be looked after. Their pets were fine and usually well looked after, but people often felt guilty about leaving the care of their pet to someone else.

In addition, they really missed them, so people began to ask if they could bring their pet when they booked their holidays. Slowly, but surely, holiday homeowners, holiday parks and hotels realised they were potentially missing out on business by not accepting pets.

Today, going away with a pet is much easier than it used to be. However, it is still mostly self-catering accommodation that allows people to bring their pets with them. This is understandable, because pets can potentially disturb other guests. Therefore, the majority of pet friendly holiday accommodation is still self-catering. However, that does not mean that accommodation is basic. Far from it, more and more luxury holiday cottage owners are allowing pets in their cottages.
More availability of pet friendly cottage holidays

The Pet Friendly Cottage Company was one of the pioneers. They have actively sought out cottage accommodation across the UK that allows owners to bring their pets. In some cases, they have even played a part in persuading holiday cottage owners to take the plunge an offer pet friendly cottage holidays. Many are glad that they have done so, because it has resulted in an increase in bookings. Some clients come back year after year to a holiday cottage simply because they can take their pet and their pet enjoys the holiday as much as they do.
