Bhangals Comments as Construction Industry Growth Exceeds Expectations

London, United Kingdom (5th March 2013) – Bhangals Construction Consultants, a leading firm offering a range of services in both the residential and commercial sectors of the construction industry, has commented on the announcement that growth in the construction industry has exceeded expectations.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) reported that UK output for the construction sector rose by 0.9% for the fourth quarter of 2012. The expectations for growth in the sector were just 0.3%. This marked the first time since the second quarter of 2011 that there had been growth in the industry.

According to the ONS, the reason for the growth was largely down to expansions in private housing and infrastructure. Estimates suggest that total volume of new work had risen by over 1.5%, whilst maintenance and repairs dropped by 0.3%. There are plans for various new projects in 2013, including flood defences, the largest of which is an £80 coastal project in Lancashire. Similarly, flood defences being built in Leeds will create 18,000 jobs. These figures are in contrast to other European nations, including Germany who saw a contraction in overall building activity.

However, Bhangals has suggested that these statistics, whilst encouraging, should be taken with a pinch of salt and that SMEs are unlikely to benefit from future large scale projects.

A spokesperson for Bhangals commented: “Although there has been a growth within the industry, it could be seen that the rise is within a market where SMEs will struggle to find a footing. These larger commercial and civil works would be for larger contractors, and SMEs will probably still find that it’s a tough market out there. It is difficult to get a pipeline of work which will give confidence to small to medium sized business going forward. Most of us are probably working on small to medium pipelines of work.
