Gloucestershire, UK (19th November, 2012) – G4S Technology, a leading provider of building security systems to public and private sector organisations, has been awarded a contract to provide a new smartcard system for thousands of students and staff at Newcastle University.
Currently there are approximately 37,000 access control smartcards being used every day by Newcastle’s staff and students, for everything from access to buildings, car parks, bedrooms and lifts, to personal identification, borrowing library books, photocopying and use of the sports centre.
The new system is to be designed, installed and maintained by G4S and will be in operation from December 2012.
Stewart Angell, UK Managing Director at G4S Technology, said: “We have enjoyed a long relationship with Newcastle University for a number of years, which has given us excellent knowledge of their systems, along with the technical ability to upgrade their existing software with the latest physical access control technology.
“We are delighted to be working with Newcastle University on delivering this work and look forward to providing them with the latest smartcard production system to meet their needs for years to come.”
