England 12/08/2013 – When it comes to the tourism industry Liverpool is leading the way.
At a time when most UK cities and tourist destinations have seen visitor numbers fall away, Liverpool has bucked the trend. The city has seen visitor numbers grow by an astonishing 23% since last year. Many hotels in Liverpool city centre are fully booked, year round. In just five years, visitor numbers have gone from 246,000 people to 471,000 an astonishing growth rate of 91%. Revenues from tourism grew by 12.6%.
The money that these visitors are bringing to the city is proving to be invaluable. Even businesses not directly related to the tourism industry are benefiting from the influx of visitors to the city. Many tourists shop heavily while they are there.
Even the city’s retail outlets are pulling in the visitors. Its biggest retail centre Liverpool ONE had turned the city into one of the UK’s top five retail destinations. Some tourists, like the Chinese, visit the UK mainly to shop. When asked, over two thirds of Chinese visitors said that they were visiting the UK to shop, so it is not surprising that they put Liverpool on their list of must visit destinations.
Liverpool’s waterfront is a big draw
Many say that quirky attractions like the Jungle Rumble Adventure Golf centre are another reason so many are drawn to the city and return year after year. Naturally, it has a vibrant music scene. The city has also come to be a magnet for the arts and culture, meaning that there is always something new to do and see in the city. The city’s waterfront has been transformed from industrial wasteland to a vibrant place to go at any time of the day. The city’s cruise port is also a spectacular sight, and, of course, this facility is bringing even more people to the city.
Visitors to the Holiday Inn Liverpool are often amazed by the variety that the city of Liverpool offers. Staff at the hotel regularly find themselves taking further bookings from guests at checkout time, because so many visitors fall in love with the city and want to return.
