Northamptonshire, United Kingdom (3rd May, 2013) – Technical Foam Services Ltd, the independent, UK-based leader in expertly engineered, innovative industrial foam and rubber conversion, announce they have secured a major contract with a leading manufacturer in the optical fibre industry.

Many years ago, Technical Foam Services Ltd previously supplied polyethylene foam pads in the optical fibre market, where it is used to wrap around the internal diameter of moulded spool. Their new optical fibre contract with a German plastic moulding company will allow them to provide the same type product for the market leader.

Technical Foam Services Ltd understand how critical it is that the closed cell foam pads are cut within tolerance of +/0.25mm, with no deformation or crimping on the edges. Closed cell foam pads should therefore be designed to a very high standard, which is why they have set up a bespoke foam cutting machine solely for this new contract. The new contract has been secured until the end of 2013 at a rate of 20,000 pads per month, and the new business is predicted to grow during 2014.

The bespoke machine is a Flash Cut Knife table which can cut foam to very tight tolerances and can be used to produce foam parts for high-end packaging. The cost of the machine was approximately £50,000. Technical Foam Services Ltd continually aim to offer the highest quality foam supplies in the industry, which is why the 3mm, rectangular closed cell polyethylene foam pads will be kept clean, dust and debris free.

The Joint Managing Director of Technical Foam Services Ltd, Duncan Geddes, commented: “We’re really pleased to have won this contract. Having supplied the optical fibre industry many years ago, from the outset of this new project we fully understood the requirement of our customer, which gave us a huge advantage against other foam companies tendering for the business. Furthermore, we now have a bespoke machine dedicated to the manufacture of the closed cell foam pads, so we can provide our customer with the guarantee of supplying a product which will consistently meet their needs.”
