The third annual Philadelphia Young Chef Awards was held earlier this month and open to young people in full or part time education between the ages of 17 to 23. Paul Knight, the Managing Director of 3663 Catering Equipment, had the honour of co-judging the event along with: professional chef and Philadelphia consultant, Sophie Wright; the editor of Stockpot Magazine, Sheila Eggleston; and vice chair of the Craft Guild of Chefs, Chris Basten.
The four finalists produced delicious, original dishes using the Philadelphia ingredient, but it was Bien Causapin who really impressed the judges with his delicious dish of pan-fried hake with mussels in Philadelphia sauce, chargrilled red pepper and cheesy potato croquettes. As a result, Mr Causapin was crowned the winner of the Philadelphia Young Chef Award 2012 and was awarded £500 and a year’s membership of the Craft Guild of Chefs. Each runner-up was also awarded £200, and £500 worth of catering equipment – donated by 3663 Catering Equipment – was given to The Worcestershire College of Technology, the draw winner of all the participating colleges.
