This summer travellers can enjoy some superb destinations in Europe with Eurostar, visiting cities with incredible history and culture.

Eurostar’s direct service to Avignon runs weekly, every Saturday, from July 7 to September 1.

The journey between London St Pancras International and Avignon TGV station takes less than six hours and travellers arrive at the station just a short walk from the ancient city walls.

Apart from the city’s fine architecture, which has helped it become a UNESCO monument, between July 5 and July 27 visitors can also enjoy one of the oldest and most famous theatre festivals in the world.

The Avignon Festival began in 1947 by Jean Vilar and offers a wealth of dramatic shows from contemporary and traditional theatre to musicals, puppetry and performance art.

Avignon’s fringe festival also draws around 600 theatrical companies who perform on the streets during the main festival.

Passengers must check in for the Avignon service at least 60 minutes before departure (it is usually 30 minutes for other services).

Eurostar tickets for the seasonal summer service to Avignon, in the heart of Provence, are now on sale from 78€ one way in Standard Class and 154€ in Standard Premier.

Another summer destination to take note of this year is, of course, London.

During the sporting event of the year, the city will welcome millions of people to its historic and world class venues, such as Wimbledon and Wembley, to watch and absorb different countries compete in what promises to be an exciting few weeks.

Over the summer months there are also some amazing festivals taking place in London to capture the spirit and passion of this world event.

The London 2012 Festival draws together talent and performances from across the globe to celebrate the city being in the spotlight this year, and on Saturday July 14, Eurostar will present Traction.

Traction pulls together European acts from French favourite Sébastien Tellier, GhostPoet from the UK, Dutch jazz-funk artist Benny Sings and Eurostar Records’ very own London trio, Plugs, among others, to create a series of unique cross-cultural collaborations.

As part of the London 2012 Festival there is also the opportunity to enjoy William Shakespeare’s plays with the World Shakespeare Festival.

The festival is a celebration of Shakespeare and runs until November with performances, workshops, groups and talks about the world’s most famous playwright.

Eurostar takes passengers into the very heart of the city, to the impressive King’s Cross St Pancras station, which has extensive links on both the Underground and over ground trains, in London and further afield.

Don’t miss out! Grab your train tickets now for these fantastic summer getaways.
